BOARD APPLICATION







Overview

The Colorado Water Congress (CWC) is governed by a Board of Directors (“Board”) comprised of members that reflect the diverse geographic and professional interests of the water community. The CWC Board has 32 voting members and 4 non-voting ex-officio members. Board terms are for 3 years and there are no term limits.


The Board is the sole authority to set CWC policy. Board members have legal and fiduciary obligations to the CWC membership to represent the best interests of the Water Congress. Responsibilities of the Board include periodically reviewing and approving the CWC mission and strategic direction, annual budget, and programs. Board members are expected to volunteer time, raise funds, and commit to ensuring the success of the CWC.


Declaration of Candidacy

Board positions require a substantial commitment of time and energy. Candidates are urged to consider their professional priorities as well as their prospective role in advancing the Colorado Water Congress.

To apply:

• Board Candidates must be from CWC member organizations in the appropriate Division that are in good standing.

• Submit the one-page Board Application and resume by September 2nd.

• Applications are distributed to the CWC Nominating Committee for evaluation and

recommendation to the Board. Candidates are selected by the Board.


Time Considerations

The CWC Board typically meets 4 times and 1 retreat per year. Regular Board meetings are typically calendared in: February, May, August, and November. Board subcommittees often meet in between Board meetings.


Expectations of Board Members

• Maintain current membership in the Colorado Water Congress.

• Uphold the mission, bylaws and policies of the Colorado Water Congress when acting in the board member capacity.

• Commit to attendance and active participation.

• Serve on at least one board committee and participate in committee activities.

• Financially contribute to the CWC and to actively participate in fund-raising.

• Notify staff when not able to attend a board meeting and designate a proxy.


Travel Costs:

No compensation will be paid to any Board member for services or travel costs.
