Position Summary

The District is recruiting for a full-time Water Treatment Operator to join the Water Treatment Facility under the supervision of the Water Treatment Superintendent. This position is responsible for monitoring and controlling all treatment processes and equipment to produce high quality water in compliance with treatment goals and applicable regulations to protect public health in pursuit of the District’s objectives by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following essential job functions are illustrative only and are not intended to be all-inclusive. Duties may be modified, added, or deleted at the discretion of management.

  • Adheres to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment Operator Code of Conduct.
  • Monitors all source water, treatment plant, and distribution processes via Operational Technology control systems, such as Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition systems (“SCADA”).
  • Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of state and federal regulations related to water treatment and delivery of potable drinking water through recertification and ongoing training.
  • Routinely inspects equipment, facilities, and properties through physical observation.
  • Analyzes data and adjusts treatment facility processes to meet facility performance goals.
  • Compiles written data and records information for facility logs and files.
  • Reports operational information and problems to appropriate District personnel.
  • Receives chemical deliveries and safely handles a variety of chemicals using appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Performs housekeeping duties throughout source water and treatment facilities.
  • Performs a variety of treatment related mathematics.
  • Conducts basic assigned laboratory work.
  • Performs general maintenance activities and assists with projects.
  • Conducts public tours and participates in special District events as required.

Position Requirements

Based on level, the Water Treatment Operator matrix of education, experience, certification, and/or licensure, as well as the internal career progression notices is as follows:

Water Treatment Operator A - $34.36 - $45.81 per hour

-High School Diploma or General Education Degree

-Four (4) years or more of experience in water treatment operations.

-A valid Class "A" Water Operator Certificate is required.

Water Treatment Operator B - $32.06 - $42.74 per hour

-High School Diploma or General Education Degree

-Three (3) years or more of experience in water treatment operations.

-A valid Class "B" Water Operator Certificate.

-Internal career progression notice requires a valid Class "A" Certificate within two (2) years of obtaining Class B and/or date of hire into the B Operator position.

Water Treatment Operator C - $30.06 - $40.08 per hour

-High School Diploma or General Education Degree

-Two (2) years or more of experience in water treatment operations.

-A valid Class "C" Water Operator Certificate.

-Internal career progression notice requires a valid Class "B" Certificate within two (2) years of obtaining Class C and/or date of hire into the C Operator position.

Water Treatment Operator D - $28.05 - $37.40 per hour

-High School Diploma or General Education Degree

-Six (6) months or more of experience in water treatment operations.

-A valid Class "D" Water Operator Certificate or obtains such certification within the first twelve (12) months from the date of hire into the position.

-Internal career progression notice requires a valid Class "C" Certificate within three (3) years from date of obtaining Class "D" Certificate.

Preferred Skills

  • Valid Class A-D Colorado Water Operator Certification.
  • Water treatment operations experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, environmental science, or other related field.
  • Familiarity with Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (“SCADA”) systems, computers, analyzers, pumps, motors, and chemical mixers is preferred.
  • Tradesperson experience in electrical, mechanical, plumbing, etc.

Any equivalent combination of certifications, education, or experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities of the position. 

Compensation and Benefits

This is a non-exempt position with a competitive benefits package. The pay range for this position is $28.05 to $45.81

per hour, dependent upon qualifications.
